NWA 'Concern'

Monday, February 18, 2008 - 5:02 pm

Legislative leaders and the governor stood side-by-side to express their "concern" over a NWA merger. But don't read too much into the visual. They didn't emerge from an intense behind-closed-doors meeting. Rather the governor just gathered the group together in front of the cameras. It was so important that Speaker of the House Kelliher was 15 minutes late and Majority Leader Pogemiller left 15 minutes early. They all appeared on the same page, but had little new to offer. Pawlenty may oppose the merger once he sees a deal. They were full of positive broad thoughts like the governor saying this issue rises "above partisan politics." Poge said "I support the governor’s comments" — that alone could be news. After the lint-picking and mic-adjusting incidents last week Poge was on his best behavior and delivered a strong and quick quote: "Northwest Airlines has been an excellent company for Minnesota and Minnesota has been excellent for Northwest Airlines."
