Franken Top Fundraiser

Monday, July 9, 2007 - 11:24 am
The numbers are in and Al Franken tops all Minnesota Senate candidates for fundraising in the second quarter. The Democrat raised $1.9 million compared to Coleman's $1.5 million and Ciresi's $735,000. Coleman still has the most cash on hand, but Ciresi has the greatest personal wealth to tap. Franken will face criticism that the majority of the money came from outside the state (about 6,000 individual contributions from Minnesota out of 36,000). He can counter that he raised money from every Minnesota county and the average contribution was just $65. This is a boost for Franken, and it's good press in a slow news week. I'll talk about this and more on my weekly segment on WCCO Radio at 9:20 am Thursdays with Mondale and Jones.
