House Minority Leader Marty Seifert lined up his candidates in front of the Capitol and gender stood out. The GOP is running a record number of women. In a nod to his '70s pop culture upbringing Seifert said he didn't want a "Smurf village where we have one female running around."

Governor's REAL ID Woodshed

A handful of Republicans got called into Gov. Tim Pawlenty's office to try to get a handle on the hot potato of REAL ID. Minority Leader Seifert says the governor has vetoed REAL ID along with an education bill. Pawlenty is talking to some of his fellow Republicans who could be override candidates behind closed doors. We had the story tonight of the executive order Pawlenty has proposed on REAL ID with what he apparently sees as some compromise language.

Session Settled?

Leaders and the governor have been back behind closed doors trying to finalize a deal on education, healthcare and property taxes. Hmmm, those are three issues Democrats ran on, won the House with and declared "we'll be focused on these like a laser beam." It would be a big win for the House and Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher if they can deliver on that.

After talks broke down last night, Gov. Pawlenty and legislative leaders went back behind closed doors this morning. They all say the tone is focused. The big hang up, as always, is property tax caps. Once again they're doing "runs" on different numbers. They've been in and out of negotiations all day, but one leader said don't expect a deal today.
