Newton’s Apple, tpt‘s family science show that ran for 15 years on PBS stations nationwide, has been reborn on the Web, with funding from 3M. The all-new web site includes loads of experiments and information for kids, plus activity guides, numerous teacher's guides, and resources for parents and teachers.

 

Cass Gilbert: Standing the Test of Time

As a boy growing up in St. Paul, Cass Gilbert found focus in creativity. As a teenager, Gilbert plied his artistic abilities, and his professional ambitions, in the emerging craft of modern architecture. Cass Gilbert would go on to help redesign American architecture in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Gilbert was architect for the Minnesota Capitol building in St. Paul. Minnesota: A History of the LandMinnesota: A History of the Land

This five-part documentary series vividly brings to life the epic story of Minnesota landscapes and people. From the retreat of the last ice sheets to the growth of today's suburbs - the series seeks to entertain as it enriches our understanding of Minnesota's past, present and future. Produced by the University of Minnesota's College of Natural Resources and Twin Cities Public Television, the series features visually stunning images from across the state and an original soundtrack by award-winning composer, Peter Ostroushko.

NORTH STAR: Minnesota's Black Pioneers

The North Star project uses personal portraits to tell the story of the history of African-Americans in Minnesota. The documentary focuses on a dozen individuals and events throughout Minnesota history, from early settlers to the Civil Rights era. By examining particular lives and stories, North Star illuminates the broader experience of African-Americans in Minnesota and the rest of the country. North Star is appropriate for 4th-12th grade students studying social studies, history, civil rights, or as fodder for discussion, research projects, presentations or artistic creations in language arts, art, or other humanities classes.

Made in China

This teacher's guide links together multiple resources for teaching Chinese art, history and culture:

* The six-part Made in China series, produced by Twin Cities Public Television
* The extensive collection of Chinese Art at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts
* Primary source material related to unit themes, such as poems or newspaper articles.
