Bakers Lara and Anushua are surprised to find that making cookies smaller uses more sugar. They head to the Science Museum of Minnesota to investigate the importance of surface area to volume ratio and conduct soda explosions to see how surface area affects reactions. Finally, they visit a scientist developing cheaper solar cells with nanotechnology that increases the cells' surface area.
