Red Pens rip it up at the Best New Band Showcase at First Avenue and talk about how their artistic collaboration evolved from painting to music. Artist Bio: Red Pens is a two-person band comprised of two visual artists: Howard Hamilton (guitar, vocals) and Laura F. Bennett (drums). Howard and Laura consider the interplay between their visual arts work and their music as related. They decided to start a band only after other means of collaborating failed to produce artistic works they were happy with. Their performances reflect this artistic bond strongly. Distortion and looping effects create the band's big sound despite only having two musicians.
