A second generation artist, Stuart Loughridge’s paintings and intaglio etchings are inspired by his international travels. Painting a landscape exactly as it appears in person is of no interest to Loughridge. Instead, the painter prefers to quickly compose plein air watercolor studies before returning to his studio to further augment reality, ultimately realizing the scene in a final oil painting. The painstaking, low-tech process of intaglio etching reflects Loughridge’s overall methodology and commitment to creating genuine work with few distractions.
