Writing/Essay/Journal
Public artist Craig David says that he often has post-art depression once a piece of art is completed and installed. He says about that piece of art, “It’s your life – now it’s over.” What things do you find hard to let go of? Are you emotionally connected to the things you produce? Or to things you own? What is the interaction between “the public” and this type of art? What is most unique about this form of art and why?
Activity
David hopes that his hard work will improve the communities it is in. “I’m trying to help build community by creating a beautiful site, a beautiful place… in that way maybe the neighbors will paint their house, plant a garden, or start a business.” How can art inspire action? Create a piece of art that makes the viewer want to DO something.
