Writing/Essay/Journal
Sculptor Jack Pavlik creates moving sculptures because he likes they way they comment on people’s relationship with the modern world. What is your relationship to mechanical things or machines? How many ways do you depend on them in your life? What is your feeling about machines: do you love them, hate them, or are you ambivalent towards them? Also, what is unique about the way Pavlik creates his art? Pavlik talks about a journey – either a physical journey or journey of process. What are those journeys?
Activity
Experiment with sound and motion. If you can find a saw (be careful!) or a piece of flexible metal material – what sounds can you make by bending the metal? What kind of motion sculpture would you like to create.
