Writing/Essay/Journal
In 2005, Jim Denomie did an artistic experiment where he painted a new painting every day for a year. It kept him from worrying about perfecting each piece and allowed him to recapture a spirit of play. Write a poem a day for a week or a month. Don’t edit, just write. Did it free you from worry and allow you to be more creative?
Activity
Jim’s current paintings express his identity as a proud Anishinaabe artist. Create a work of art in any medium that encapsulates the pride of who you are. Think about your age, gender, race, nationality, family, likes, dislikes, fears, dreams and beliefs. Share your work with your family and classmates.
