Writing/Essay/Journal
Judy Onofrio is a collector who loves to hunt for items that she can transpose into something else.
What examples does Judy give for why she collects what she does? Write about a collection you have or one that you hope to create in the future. Why do these things appeal to you?
Activity
Although the bones Judy has collected for “Full Circle” might seem to represent death, she sees them as part of the circle of life. Using screws, epoxy and careful positioning, she transforms them into “soul vessels,” which point to her idea that life goes on.
Pick an idea that interests you (life, the soul, love, friendship) and create a sculpture. If you want to use Judy’s example, incorporate a collection of materials into the sculpture. Be prepared to speak about how the materials you used represent the idea you are trying to convey.
