Writing/Essay/Journal
Photographer Keri Pickett says that she is interested in “the commonalities that we share and the aspects about ourselves that make us unique from other people or communities.” What are the aspects about you that make you unique from other people? With what community do you associate? What commonalities do you share with this community? What makes this community unique? Also, has Pickett always wanted to be a photographer? Who is her primary audience and how is her work received?
Activity
Pickett says, “The way I get good pictures is by knowing the people I’m spending time with – and by trying to spend a lot of time with them.” What communities do you spend a lot of time with? How would you represent them through art? What would you want an outsider to know about this community? Create a portfolio of images that would give a stranger insight into the community you have chosen.
