Although mainly a painter, Lisa Nankivil is starting to get into printmaking. She says, “It is really exciting to be an absolute beginner at something.” Do you feel the same way? When you are just beginning something are you excited about the potential for growth? Or do you get frustrated at not knowing it all? What political implications are present in each form of art? How would you use each form of art to express a message? What message would it be?

Nankivil stops painting to turn her canvas around, something that is much easier with abstract art. When she turns it upside-down she notes that the emphasis is completely different. Create a piece of abstract art that feels or looks much different when turned to a different orientation.
