Writing/Essay/Journal
Ceramic artist Maren Kloppmann finds that explaining her work is complex, but the work itself is visually simple. Is there anything in your life that might look simple on the surface but is complex underneath? A relationship with another person? Your feelings about something? How would you describe it? What is simple about it and what is complex? How are different types of energy expressed through each form of art? How could you express yourself with this type of art?
Activity
Maren Kloppmann uses porcelain to create objects that both open and close space. Her pillow forms are examples of this. Use your own medium to create a piece of art that shows the opening and closing of space, or create something that looks light as air.
