Writing/Essay/Journal
Stuart Loughridge considers himself lucky to have grown up with a father who instilled in him the value of being an artist. As a second-generation artist, he feels like he had a head start in his career because his father paved the way for him.
Write about a hobby or a future career goal that you have. Have you had a parent or friend who’s helped pave the way for you, or have you had to find your own route? What are the benefits of either following in someone’s footsteps or paving your own way?
Activity
Stuart likes to add human touches to his otherwise traditional landscape paintings and prints through man-made items such as a gate.
Look around you, in a book, or online for a scene in nature to draw, paint, or photograph. When you are finished, add your own “human touch” to the art that will contextualize your landscape in a human way.
