Painter Ta-coumba Aiken says, “For someone to ask me to do my work in the context of what they are doing: about people, about housing, about sustainability, about violence [awareness], about health, that’s where I want my work to be seen.” Where do you want your work to be seen? How could your work be used to convey a message for someone’s cause? What reason does Aiken give for making his art? How did his background influence his art?

Aiken creates his paintings using a method he calls “rhythm pattern” which serves as the skeleton for his work. Create your own piece of art using this method. Make a line and repeat it a few times, then make another line and repeat that.
