The Pines musician David Huckfelt says that “where you grow up is deep in your subconscious.” He grew up in Iowa and has images of fields, barns, and silos. His music reflects the feeling of those places he grew up. What is/was around you when you grew up? What physical elements were present? What kinds of emotions?

Activity
Create or find music that you feel captures the essence of a particular place. It does not need to be where you grew up. Try to have someone else listen to the music and describe the place they hear. Did they describe the place you thought of?
