In 1857, Emily Grey set foot on the banks of St. Anthony Falls. In Minnesota Territory, Emily took a stand against slavery. She attended a Congregational church that spoke out against it, named her son Toussaint after the leader of Haiti's slave revolt and sacrificed her own safety to free Eliza Winston - the slave of a visiting Southerner.
