When you think of Sherlock Holmes, what comes to mind? Now it might be Benedict Cumberbatch, but for more than a century prior he was defined by his distinctive costume. The story behind how the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle character became associated with his now-ubiquitous plaid cap is an interesting and surprising one.
