Mixed-media artist Andy Ducett creates his installations out of found objects, objects that were owned by somebody and then thrown away or sold in second-hand shops. He says, “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure.” In your own life are there things (objects, emotions, or other) that you value or treasure that other people don’t? How does Ducett incorporate different types of media in his artwork? What can be advantageous about using mixed media? What might be a disadvantage?

Ducett is fascinated by everyday objects because of the things they have been witness to. Choose an object in your bedroom or house. What has that object been witness to? Write a story or create a piece of art that tells the story or stories that the object has seen.
