Greg Grease says he’s an artist first and a rapper second. His dad was a fan of hip-hop and his mother was an English teacher. His parents taught him the importance of words and accordingly, he writes songs to create a “language of the people.”

Write about what you have learned from your mother or father or another adult in your life and how it influences what you do each day.

Greg raps, “My crew keeps me cool like an air conditioning unit.” Choose 5 people from your “crew”—friends and family alike. Think of your own similes (comparisons using like or as) to convey how you feel about each of them. Now write your own rap or poem about what your crew means to you with those similes as the backbone.
