Writing/Essay/Journal
Laura Hallen is currently working with unconventional mediums such as tutus and marshmallows. She used to focus mainly on plants and nature, but lately has been drawn to these materials. When you are being creative – do you find yourself drawn to certain materials over others? How often do you switch up the media you use? How do phases in your life cause you to create differently or change the subject of your art?
Activity
Hallen describes some of her pieces as “a moment in time – a frozen explosion.” She uses the plexiglass box to create that sense of being contained. If the materials weren’t in there, they would be all over the room. Create your own art that conveys an explosion frozen in time or a party in action. How can you create that same sense of an explosion contained?
