Liz Miller makes large architectural pieces with soft, pliable materials. She cuts, bends, folds, irons and steps on pieces of stiffened felt in order to recombine them into what she calls “abstract fictions.” She hopes her viewers will see something new and come up with their own meaning.

Take a familiar story and re-write it. Try to be open and playful as you alter the characters, rework their dialogue, splice parts of the plot together and create something new out of something familiar.

Activity
Try Liz Miller’s installation technique. Use paper or any other material and cut out repeating shapes. When you have enough of them (she calls it a “critical mass”) put them together to create an architectural sculpture. Play with patterns, textures and colors.
