Objectives: The Made Here initiative puts local art into unused spaces throughout the metro. Design a gallery space for unused spaces in your school or community.
Tools/Resources: A pen, paper and an unused location inside the school building.
Activity:
1) Watch the segment and discuss:
a. How does the presence of art change a space?
b. How can public art be a gateway to inspire larger conversations about difficult issues?
2) Create your own public art space.
a. Find an unused space in your school or community.
b. Decide what kind of art would best fit in this space (e.g. sculptures, paintings, murals).
c. Sketch a diagram of a possible arrangement of the art.
i. Think about how you want patrons to experience the space.
ii. Will you group the art by theme or feel?
iii. How do you want people to feel after visiting the space?
