Writing/Essay/Journal
After 20 years of working in the advertising world for food companies, Michael Sweere began creating art out of the recycled packaging as a way to spend time with his young son. When he created a cool mosaic in just an hour, he realized that with thought and time he could do much more, and he eventually switched careers to pursue art fulltime.
Write about a time when you realized you had the potential to do more with an idea you had. What was the final product?
Activity
Michael made his first mosaic with his young son using a cut up cereal box. Although it was laid out abstractly, Michael’s son identified an image of a rabbit jumping out of a hole.
Create your own abstract mosaic using recycled food packaging. Share your finished piece with your classmates and see if you can see actual images in each other’s abstract work.
